So what is the basic obstacle to sending MMS messages? Yes, you need to comply with the technical requirements (like size, format etc). Yes, you must check your image a dozen times to make sure there is no embarrassing mistype. But that is not the biggest issue..

The problem is you can not send MMS via standard SMPP protocol you use for SMS. So let’s get to this together. First, let me copy-paste a bit of Wikipedia here :

MM4 is the interface used to exchange messages between two different MMSCs. These MMSCs are generally located in two distinct Mobile Networks
This interface is also known as the MMSR interface in the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) standards.

In reality what it means, is that MMS are transmitted to the mobile carrier the very same way as SMS are, but have a different transmission mechanism when it comes to handset delivery. MMS is delivered via Internet connection and after it is determined whether or not the handset can receive MMS (not all devices can) – a URL is sent with a link to whatever file was originally sent.
